The Nigerian Navy Marines, operating alongside the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralised 34 Boko Haram terrorists in two separate offensive operations in the Lake Chad area of Borno State.
The operations also disrupted terrorist activities and further weakened the operational capabilities of insurgents in the North-East.
A statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said “The first operation was conducted when Nigerian Navy Marines deployed at Naval Base Lake Chad launched an offensive against terrorist elements.”

Folorunsho stated that the initial reports indicated that eight terrorists were killed during the engagement, but a Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revised the casualty figure to 28.
According to him, in a separate operation, the Navy Marines, working in conjunction with the 403 Amphibious Brigade of the Nigerian Army, carried out a precision strike against an identified Boko Haram terrorist enclave at Dumba.
The operation followed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions which enabled troops to identify and monitor the terrorists before executing the strike.
Preliminary Battle Damage Assessment indicated that about six terrorists were neutralised, while several others reportedly sustained injuries.
The Navy, however, said “the casualty figures were still subject to further verification.”
The Navy noted that the recently established Nigerian Navy Marines had continued to serve as a force multiplier under Operation HADIN KAI, strengthening joint offensive operations against terrorist groups in the Lake Chad region.
The Navy said that their contributions had enhanced the capacity of the joint force to target terrorist enclaves, disrupt hostile activities and deny insurgents freedom of action in the area.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations and supporting joint military efforts aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring peace and stability in the North-East.
