NAWOJ Seeks Enhanced Protection, Education for Nigerian Girls

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Kaduna State Chapter, has called for stronger measures to protect the rights of girls and promote their education, health and empowerment.

The Chairperson of the association, Sahura Jibrin Maidoki made the call in a statement to mark the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.

She urged the Government, Parents, Traditional institutions and other stakeholders to prioritise and address challenges facing girls, including child marriage, sexual abuse, gender-based violence, discrimination and barriers to education.

NAWOJ also advocated increased investment in girls’ education, improved access to menstrual health services and stronger child protection mechanisms.

The association called on the media to promote responsible, child-sensitive reporting that will protect the privacy and dignity of girls, particularly survivors of abuse.

Hold Authorities Accountable
NAWOJ also reaffirmed its commitment to using journalism and public enlightenment to promote girls’ rights and hold authorities accountable for policies aimed at protecting them.

The Association however urged stakeholders to move beyond celebrations and take practical steps to ensure that every girl has equal opportunities to learn, lead and fulfil her potential.

The statement was signed by Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, Secretary of NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter.
