The event, which is the first of its kind in NCAA’s 25-year history, will feature over 300 athletes from regional offices (Abuja, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt) and the headquarters, competing in Football, Swimming, Chess, Table Tennis, among other indoor games.

The event will run from the 23rd to the 29th of June 2025 at the Nigerian Air Force Base sports complex, Airport Road. The opening will start at 1:Pm local time.

She said the event is actively supported by the Director-General of the NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, and is an initiative to promote unity, fitness, teamwork, resilience, and institutional pride across the Authority.

The Director stated that the event will be held annually, as sports can improve staff morale and productivity.

Being healthy is essential for productivity. This event aims to enhance teamwork, strengthen bonds, help everyone unwind, reduce stress, and increase overall happiness among staff. Engaging in sports offers numerous benefits, as it embodies a variety of valuable attributes.

Sports promote bonding, discipline, and stress relief,” she emphasized. She added that by encouraging NCAA staff to participate in sports, we can improve their health and, ultimately, their productivity at work.

During a briefing, Mr. Razak Sowunmi, the Chairman of the NCAA Sports Club, emphasized the importance of sporting activities for promoting the well-being of employees.

You need to be in peak health and have the right mindset to perform effectively,” he stated.

He said the sporting facilities are all conducive, security is well provided, with a complement of healthcare providers. We have a paramedic stationed, he assured.

The well-being of our staff is essential. In our 25 years of existence, this is the first time we are hosting a sports week,” he emphasized.

Additionally, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, noted that the Director General, Captain. Chris Najomo, upon taking office, promised to implement many changes within the Authority, and he has demonstrated that he is a man of his word.

“One of the many commitments he made was to create a CAA where staff are fit, healthier, and more productive. One way he has fulfilled this commitment is by ensuring that NCAA staff receive better insurance packages. Healthy and productive regulatory staff contribute to a stronger industry,” he explained.

Today, we are excited to present to the world the inaugural edition of the DG NCAA Sports Week,” he stated enthusiastically.
