The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has announced his resignation from office.
Gusau made the announcement during a press conference at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, bringing an end to his tenure amid intense scrutiny over the state of Nigerian football. He noted during his press conference that he advised his board members to also step down.
The resignations come on the heels of severe systemic failures across Nigeria’s national teams. The administration faced criticism after historical setbacks, most notably the Super Eagles’ struggles and the failure of the Super Falcons to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Gusau, who was elected in September 2022, departs shortly before the end of his mandate. His sudden exit, along with the widespread board resignations, leaves the federation’s leadership in a state of deep uncertainty.
This development is expected to significantly disrupt the NFF’s planned electoral process, throwing the board elections scheduled for September 27th in Lafia, Nasarawa State, into doubt.
