The Northern Governors’ Wives Forum (NGWF) has commissioned renovated healthcare facilities in Adamawa State and provided ₦20 million in financial support to 200 beneficiaries as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen livelihoods.
The interventions were part of the Forum’s 2nd Tri-Annual Meeting, hosted by the Wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Dr Lami Fintiri.
The NGWF Chairperson and Wife of the Gombe State Governor, Hajiya Asma’u Bello, led the commissioning of the renovated Labour Room, Special Baby Care Complex and CT Scan Centre at Yola Specialist Hospital.

The projects, initiated through the intervention of Dr Lami Fintiri, are aimed at improving maternal and newborn healthcare, strengthening diagnostic services and creating a better working environment for healthcare professionals.
Speaking during the activities, the First Ladies urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to invest the funds in productive ventures capable of improving their livelihoods and supporting their families.
Each of the 200 beneficiaries received ₦100,000, bringing the total financial support under the programme to ₦20 million.
The Forum also distributed food and non-food items to 1,000 vulnerable households as part of efforts to provide immediate relief to families facing economic hardship.
According to the NGWF, the interventions reflect its commitment to healthcare improvement, women’s empowerment, social inclusion and humanitarian support across Northern Nigeria.
The activities attracted government officials, women leaders, community organisations and other stakeholders.
Those in attendance included wives of members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, wives of local government chairmen, commissioners and permanent secretaries, vice chairpersons representing the 21 local government areas, as well as representatives of the National Council for Women’s Societies, religious organisations and women’s associations.
The NGWF said the interventions demonstrate how coordinated efforts by government and women leaders can contribute to improved healthcare delivery, economic empowerment and social protection for vulnerable communities.
