The Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, has commended members of the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria (AIHN) for mobilising significant funds to support Nigeria’s economic development.
Kwairanga gave the commendation in a goodwill message at the Association’s 30th Anniversary Awards Night and Dinner held on Wednesday in Lagos.
He said members of the Association had led capital-raising exercises that recapitalised banks and insurance companies, while enabling governments at federal and sub-national levels to meet their governance and development objectives.
The NGX Group Chairman noted that issuing houses had continued to support the economy by raising funds to sustain businesses, adding that their contributions could not be underestimated.
According to him, the progress of Nigeria’s capital market had been anchored on collaboration among exchanges, regulators, issuing houses and other market participants.
Kwairanga said Nigeria’s economic ambitions required a capital market capable of mobilising long-term funding, directing capital towards productive enterprises and creating opportunities for more Nigerians to participate in wealth creation.
