Nigeria has recorded a monumental milestone in its economic diversification drive following the discovery of a world-class, exceptionally high-grade polymetallic mineral deposit containing platinum in Kaduna State.
The announcement was made by Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) Dr Dele Alake during the fifth African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) held in Abuja.
Described as the “biggest find” in recent history, the minister said the newly verified discovery is set to fundamentally reposition Nigeria as a premier global destination for strategic mineral resources and sustainable mining investment.
He said the discovery was officially verified by national geological agencies who characterised the find as a fundamental shift for the nation’s solid minerals landscape.
“Recent explorations verified by our National Nigeria have revealed a world-class polymetallic mineral in Kaduna space, which is of world-class platinum of exceptional high grade, positioning Nigeria among the emerging destinations for strategic mineral resources and sustainable mining and investment. This is a new find. It’s by far the biggest,” the minister announced.
The minister said this has positioned Nigeria as an economic “disruptor”. “This single discovery elevates Nigeria into a top-tier destination for international investors hunting for critical and precious strategic minerals.”
The Kaduna breakthrough will serve as a pillar for the newly ratified Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) framework. Under this model, Nigeria aims to link its raw discoveries with cross-border processing corridors, ensuring that African minerals are smelted, refined, and manufactured entirely on the continent.
