The Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL have agreed to strengthen cooperation against transnational crime, following Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France.
Disu met with INTERPOL Secretary-General, Valdecy Urquiza and other senior officials to explore ways to enhance collaboration in cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing.

The discussions also focused on improving Nigeria’s access to and use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools, as well as reviewing the country’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives.

Cross-Border Crime
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to identify additional areas of technical and operational cooperation, particularly criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to working with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement partners to address evolving security threats.

The IGP was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and the National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter-Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.

During his maiden official visit as IGP, Disu met with INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza and senior officials to discuss cooperation on cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial and organised crime, fugitive tracking, intelligence sharing, and the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools.
The engagement also explored further technical and operational collaboration in criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
