Nigeria Seeks More Hungarian Scholarships to Promote Educational Exchange

By Margaret Ebeshi, Abuja

The Nigerian Embassy in Hungary has intensified efforts to secure more educational opportunities for Nigerian students through the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, following a visit to the University of Dunaújváros (DUE).

The delegation was led by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Abasi Braimah Ogwime, and included the Embassy’s Social Secretary, Dr Erika Madarász, and Daniel Etawo.

They were received by the university’s management team, led by the Vice-Rector for Institutional Development and General Affairs, Dr Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár.

During the meeting, university officials briefed the delegation on its international degree programmes, scholarship opportunities under the Stipendium Hungaricum scheme, and support services available to international students.

The visit also featured a tour of the university’s facilities, including its laboratories, where the delegation interacted with lecturers and Nigerian students to gain first-hand insights into academic activities and student experiences.

The Nigerian Embassy said the visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic cooperation between Nigeria and Hungary and expand access to international education for Nigerian youths.

The university currently has 11 Nigerian students enrolled, including six beneficiaries of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.

Most of the Nigerian students are studying Computer Engineering, while others are pursuing degrees in Business Administration and Management, as well as Communication and Media Science.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the Nigerian delegation to learn more about the university’s academic offerings and the experiences of Nigerian students benefiting from Hungary’s educational programmes.

The Embassy’s scholarship drive is expected to further promote educational exchanges and strengthen Nigeria-Hungary relations through increased access to higher education and specialised training.
