By Timothy Choji, Abuja

Nigerian First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu calls for more awareness on the dangers of illicit drugs.

In her message as the World marks the 2026 Day Against Drug Abuse, the First Lady said there should be more awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking at the family level and in schools.

She said: “On this International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026, with the theme, “the evidence is clear: invest in prevention. Break the cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime,” reminds us that prevention through education, awareness, family support, and community engagement remains one of the most effective tools in addressing substance abuse and criminal networks.”

Mrs Tinubu also enjoined government at all levels as well the civil society among others, to strengthen their commitment towards sensitizing the society especially the youth on the dangers of the menace.

“I call on governments, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and civil society to strengthen their collective commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where every child and young person can thrive, realize their full potential, and contribute meaningfully to society through sustained advocacy, care, and support systems. Happy International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026,” the First Lady added.
