“The championship showcased courage, resilience, discipline and sportsmanship. The Nigerian Armed Forces’ is committed to preparing personnel both physically and mentally for the demands of national service”.

The  competition also served as a key selection platform for Nigeria’s preparations ahead of the World Military Beach Wrestling Championship, which Lagos is expected to host later this year.

Military officials believe the event will provide another opportunity for Nigeria to demonstrate its organisational capability while welcoming athletes from across the world.

In sand wrestling, the Nigerian Army emerged as the dominant force, winning both the men’s and women’s overall team titles.

The Nigerian Navy finished second in both categories after producing several impressive individual performances, while the Nigerian Air Force also claimed a podium finish in the men’s 80-kilogram division.

Behind the victories were months of rigorous training. Coaches credited the athletes’ success to intensive camping, technical preparation and sustained physical conditioning, while calling for continued investment in long-term training programmes to maintain international competitiveness.
