The Nigerian Navy has reinforced its commitment to strengthening civil-military relations with the commissioning of a series of community development projects in Kerau Community, Katsina State, aimed at improving access to clean water, education and public safety.
The projects, executed under the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas’ Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme, include an 80,000-litre solar-powered industrial borehole with an overhead water tank, solar-powered streetlights and the renovation of a community school.

Addressing residents during the commissioning, the Chief of Naval Staff, represented by Rear Admiral Aminu Abdullahi, said the mandate of the Nigerian Navy extends beyond maritime security to fostering partnerships with communities across the country.
He noted that the intervention reflected the Navy’s diplomatic and humanitarian role in promoting national development.
“These projects demonstrate that beyond protecting lives and property, we are committed to improving the well-being of Nigerians through people-centred initiatives,” Abdullahi said.
According to him, the project, introduced in 2024, supports the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by delivering essential infrastructure to underserved communities while strengthening cooperation between the military and civilians.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator, Rear Admiral Muhammad Yakubu Dahiru, described the initiative as a lasting investment in the welfare of the people and a demonstration of the Nigerian Navy’s commitment beyond its constitutional security responsibilities.
“Today is a memorable day because these projects represent a lasting investment in the welfare and development of the people of Kerau and Katsina State. They are practical interventions that will improve access to potable water, enhance security and provide a more conducive learning environment for our children,” Dahiru said.
He disclosed that the Quick Impact Project was designed to strengthen civil-military relations by addressing critical needs in communities, while urging residents to protect the facilities and support security agencies with credible information.
Rear Admiral Dahiru further stated that personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Army and Air Force had earlier organised a free medical outreach alongside the commissioning, providing medical consultations, treatment and drugs to residents.
“I urge the community to take advantage of the free medical services and continue to support security agencies through useful information that will help secure our country,” he added.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, represented by the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkadir Hassan, commended the Nigerian Navy for complementing the state government’s development efforts.
He said the projects align with Governor Radda’s vision of improving the quality of life of citizens, particularly through increased access to clean water, sanitation and social infrastructure.
Community leaders and residents expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the projects as timely and impactful.
They pledged to safeguard the facilities and ensure they are properly maintained for the benefit of present and future generations.
