The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and substances believed to be Cannabis sativa during an operation in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director, Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki as part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade and storage of petroleum products as well as the proliferation of illicit drugs within the Base’s area of operations.
Folorunsho stated that the suspects fled the scene before they could be apprehended by naval personnel.
However, the recovered products and suspected narcotic substances were secured and transported to the Base for further investigation and necessary action in line with established procedures.

He noted that the successful operation reflects the Nigerian Navy’s sustained commitment to combating criminal activities that threaten national economic interests, public safety and security within the maritime environment.
The Navy reaffirmed its determination to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations across its areas of responsibility to deter illegal oil-related activities and other criminal enterprises.
The interception forms part of the Nigerian Navy’s broader campaign against economic sabotage, illicit trafficking and other threats to Nigeria’s maritime security.
