The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking and other transnational organised crimes.
The Navy handed over of two rescued human trafficking victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the victims were formally handed over by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry to NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Command in Ikeja on July 19, 2026.

According to the statement, the victims were rescued during a targeted anti-human trafficking operation conducted by personnel of FOB Badagry on July 17, 2026, as part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to dismantle trafficking networks operating within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Folorunsho explained that in line with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) for handling victims of trafficking, the rescued individuals were first taken to the Western Naval Command Maritime Crime Investigation Desk for proper documentation.
He said “the victims underwent comprehensive documentation, biometric capture, and other administrative procedures before being formally transferred to NAPTIP for rehabilitation, protection, and further investigation”.
The Navy described the successful rescue and seamless handover as a demonstration of its unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria’s maritime and territorial corridors from transnational organised crime while ensuring the safety and dignity of vulnerable persons.
The statement added that “the operation also reflects the Nigerian Navy’s sustained collaboration with relevant government agencies in dismantling human trafficking syndicates and strengthening the country’s national security architecture”.
Folorunsho reiterated that the Service remains committed to intelligence-driven operations and robust inter-agency cooperation aimed at preventing human trafficking and other forms of organised crime.
He stressed that the Navy would continue to intensify efforts to disrupt criminal networks exploiting Nigeria’s waterways while supporting national and international initiatives against human trafficking.
The Nigerian Navy also assured Nigerians of its resolve to promote a safe and secure maritime environment through sustained operations and strategic partnerships in support of national security objectives.
