The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas has reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to improving personnel welfare, strengthening support infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for officers, ratings and their families to thrive.
The Naval Chief made this known during the commissioning of projects in the Lagos area as part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy Week and the Service’s 70th Anniversary.
Speaking at the event, Vice Admiral Abbas described the occasion as a reflection of the Navy’s sense of responsibility and dedication to institutional growth.
He noted that the projects commissioned represent significant milestones in the Service’s efforts to improve living conditions and enhance social infrastructure for personnel.
The projects commissioned include the Dolphin Golf Club House, a block of 48 one-room accommodation units for junior ratings and newly completed 16 two-bedroom flats, all situated within Navy Town, Lagos.
According to the Naval Chief, the facilities form part of activities celebrating seven decades of dedicated service by the Nigerian Navy to the nation.

Vice Admiral Abbas said that “the projects stand as visible symbols of the Navy’s transformation from modest beginnings into a modern and capable maritime force”.
He emphasised that the commissioning also demonstrates the Service’s determination to complete abandoned projects and put them to productive use for the benefit of personnel.
The CNS particularly highlighted the 48-unit accommodation block, which had remained abandoned for over five years after construction commenced.
He assured that the Navy would continue to prioritise the completion of viable abandoned projects across formations, stressing that officers, ratings and civilian staff should expect the delivery of more previously stalled projects under the current policy.

On the newly commissioned Dolphin Golf Club House, Vice Admiral Abbas said the facility represents an important investment in the social and recreational wellbeing of naval personnel.
Beyond serving as a sporting centre, he explained that the clubhouse would foster professional interaction, strengthen friendships and encourage greater engagement among personnel, veterans, partners and members of the wider naval community.
While celebrating the achievements, the Naval Chief stressed that infrastructure development goes beyond project completion.
He urged beneficiaries and custodians of the facilities to embrace a strong maintenance culture, stressing that accommodation blocks, recreational centres and other supporting infrastructure must be properly utilised and maintained.
He also advised personnel to adopt prudent electricity consumption habits and avoid energy waste.
Vice Admiral Abbas expressed profound appreciation to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continuous support toward the growth and modernisation of the Nigerian Navy.
He also commended project implementation teams, contractors, engineers and workers whose commitment ensured the successful completion of the projects, expressing confidence that the facilities would strengthen institutional development and enhance the operational effectiveness of the Service for years to come.
