The Nigerian Navy has recorded another significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, following the discovery of a large dugout reservoir containing approximately 10,000 litres of substance suspected to be stolen crude oil in Delta State.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the discovery was made by personnel of NNS DELTA during an anti-crude oil theft operation within its area of operations.
The operation, conducted based on credible intelligence, led naval personnel to the Oteghele general area of Delta State, where the suspected illegal petroleum storage facility was uncovered.
The Navy disclosed that the dugout reservoir and its contents were subsequently handled in line with established operational procedures, effectively preventing the suspected stolen crude oil from being further exploited for illicit activities.
The discovery is the latest in a series of efforts by the Nigerian Navy to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining and other forms of economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
Naval authorities noted that the operation underscored the Service’s commitment to denying criminal elements access to crude oil resources and dismantling infrastructure used to facilitate illegal petroleum activities.
The Nigerian Navy has continued to intensify intelligence-driven operations across the maritime environment and the Niger Delta, aimed at protecting the nation’s oil and gas assets while supporting economic stability and national security.
