Nigerian Troops Kill Eight Terrorists, Rescue Three Kidnap Victims

Nokai Origin, Abuja

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised eight armed terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during coordinated offensive operations across Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara States.

The multi-state military engagements led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated firearms, three motorcycles, cutlasses, and assorted charms from fleeing insurgent elements.

The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain Tamuno Sinivie in a statement disclosed that on “Saturday, 24 October 2026, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call from local farmers at Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State following reports of active terrorist movement.”

“Upon arrival, the troops engaged the armed group in a firefight, neutralising two terrorists while forcing the remaining fighters to flee the vicinity.”

During the Sabuwa operation, troops rescued 42-year-old Suleiman Umar from captivity and recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition along with one operational motorcycle following tactical exploitation of the general area.

In Kaduna State on the same day, Sector 1 troops operating alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) foiled a terrorist ambush along Ungwan Iya in Igabi Local Government Area, neutralising six suspected terrorists.

The Igabi confrontation occurred after security forces responded to an attack at Ungwan Mallami village, where armed insurgents had abducted two local residents before being trailed by the joint patrol team.

Although the trailing force came under surprise fire, troops mounted a swift heavy-fire response that overwhelmed the ambush position, neutralising six insurgents and recovering three locally fabricated guns, two motorcycles, cutlasses, and charms.

In Zamfara State, Sector 2 troops rescued two additional kidnapped victims during surveillance and fighting patrol operations around Bagega in Anka Local Government Area on Sunday, 25 October 2026.

The rescued individuals were identified as 40-year-old Shehu Chete and 25-year-old Bugu Bedi, both indigenes of Kebbi State, who were abandoned by fleeing terrorists after spotting the approaching military unit.

Military information officers confirmed that both victims received immediate medical evaluation at Bagega Clinic before being transferred to a military base for further assessment prior to their reunion with family members.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma commended the troops for their operational resilience and gallantry, reaffirming that ground forces are actively dominating the theatre to track fleeing combatants and safeguard rural communities.
