The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and TomorrowNow have partnered to improve the delivery of timely and actionable weather and climate advisories to farmers across Nigeria.

The partnership was highlighted during a side event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.

The initiative aims to provide farmers with clearer and more reliable weather and climate information to support agricultural planning, improve decision-making and strengthen resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

Speaking at the event, NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, stressed the need to standardise climate information provided to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.

He emphasised that the partnership must be results-oriented and deliver practical benefits to farmers.

Anosike explained that the collaboration should translate into tangible improvements in access to climate information, enabling farmers to make informed decisions about their agricultural activities.

In his remarks, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, gave assurance of the organisation’s commitment to delivering climate advisory services at scale to support Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

The partnership is expected to strengthen access to actionable weather and climate guidance, helping farmers and livestock producers better anticipate weather conditions, plan their activities and manage climate-related risks.

It also underscores the importance of collaboration between meteorological agencies and climate service organisations in ensuring that reliable weather and climate information reaches those who need it most.

The initiative is expected to contribute to improved agricultural productivity, enhanced climate resilience and more informed decision-making across Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
