The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) have agreed to work together to tackle traffic congestion around the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports and improve cargo movement.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between NPA Managing Director Dr Abubakar Dantsoho and ANLCA President Chief Emenike Nwokeoji.
Dantsoho said the recent recognition of Apapa and Tin Can Island ports among the World Bank’s top 20 most improved ports reflects ongoing reforms to boost efficiency and competitiveness.
He noted that while the Electronic Call-Up System (Eto) has improved truck traffic management, rising trade volumes require stronger measures to permanently address gridlock.
The NPA boss also stressed the need to modernise port infrastructure and equipment to meet global standards and increase revenue generation.
Nwokeoji welcomed the reforms and called for ANLCA’s direct involvement in managing the electronic call-up system to help eliminate racketeering and reduce delays.
He further pledged ANLCA’s support for a joint task force involving the NPA, police and other stakeholders to ensure smoother traffic flow along port access roads.
