NUC Approves Two New Aviation Degrees at Baze University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved two undergraduate degree programmes in Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering at Baze University, Abuja, for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval comes amid the development of a dedicated aviation school on an 88-hectare site in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the university expands its academic offerings in aviation-related fields.

In a letter dated 16 October 2026 and signed by Dr Ayuba Mohammed, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, the commission authorised the university to run both programmes on a full-time basis at its main campus in Abuja.

According to the commission, the approval followed a resource verification exercise by a panel of experts, who assessed the human and material resources available for the proposed programmes. The exercise also included an inspection of the Aviation School.

The NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, subsequently approved the programmes after considering the panel’s report.

Aviation Management will be offered under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be domiciled in the Faculty of Engineering.

The two programmes are designed to provide academic pathways in aviation management and aerospace engineering, areas relevant to air transport operations, engineering and technological development.

The university’s planned Aviation School in Bwari is a separate but complementary component of its investment in aviation education. While the newly approved degree programmes will operate at the main campus, the specialised facility is under development in Bwari.

The introduction of the programmes adds to the range of specialised courses available to undergraduates in Nigeria. Their planned commencement in the 2026/2027 academic session will provide prospective students with additional options for pursuing careers in aviation management and aerospace engineering.
