The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Voice of Nigeria (VON) Chapel, is set to hold its 2026 Annual Press Week from November 7 to 12 in Abuja, with activities highlighting the role of journalism in promoting truth, democracy and responsible reporting in the age of artificial intelligence.
The Press Week, themed “Truth in the Age of AI: Journalism, Democracy, and 2027 Elections,” will feature a fitness walk, public lecture, awards ceremony and medical checks.
The activities will begin on Saturday, November 7, with a fitness walk scheduled to depart from Radio House, Abuja, at 7:00 a.m.
A public lecture and awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 10, at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Vice-Chancellor of Baze University, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, will deliver the public lecture, while the Chairman of the NUJ Federal Capital Territory Council, Grace Ike, will attend as a Special Guest of Honour.
The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, is the Chief Host.
The week-long activities will conclude on Thursday, November 12, with medical checks at the Voice of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja, starting at 9:00 a.m.
The theme reflects growing concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, particularly issues of information credibility, misinformation, professional ethics and the responsibility of the media in safeguarding democratic values ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the programme announcement, the Chapel’s Secretary, Ernest Eke, invited media professionals, executives and public stakeholders to participate in the activities.
He said the celebration would provide an opportunity to promote responsible journalism, professional development and service to society.
