The Ogun State Government has approved a fresh round of projects, including housing developments, road rehabilitation and institutional upgrades, aimed at boosting economic growth and improving residents’ quality of life.
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kayode Akinmade, said the approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, urban renewal and institutional reforms.
He said the State Executive Council approved the construction of 450 affordable two-bedroom semi-detached houses, 28 new official quarters for members of the State House of Assembly, 28 duplexes for public sale at the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) Scheme II, and the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
Akinmade explained that the 450-unit housing project is part of the state’s affordable housing programme aimed at expanding access to decent accommodation, creating jobs and stimulating economic activity in the construction sector.
He stated that the 28 duplexes at Ibara GRA Scheme II would increase property values, attract private investment and further strengthen Ogun State’s reputation as a preferred destination for residential, commercial and industrial investment.
According to him, the reconstruction of the Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge will provide a more conducive environment for governance, preserve public assets and ensure continuity for future administrations.
Akinmade noted that many government buildings inherited by the present administration were more than 50 years old and had deteriorated beyond economic repair, making reconstruction a more sustainable option than rehabilitation.
The Council also approved the reconstruction of key roads across the state’s three senatorial districts to improve connectivity, ease transportation and support commercial activities in one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing industrial hubs.
The approved road projects include the Okun-Owa–Ijebu-Ode Road in Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode Local Government Areas; the 19.05-kilometre Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road in Ijebu North; Phase One of the 5.5-kilometre Odeda–Olugbo Road in Odeda; the 3.6-kilometre Ayobo (Mopol Junction)–Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area; and the 2.78-kilometre Agbala Road in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area.
Akinmade said the road projects would reduce travel time, improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and industrial clusters, while promoting inclusive socio-economic development across the state.
As part of efforts to preserve cultural heritage and strengthen traditional governance, the Council also approved the recognition and upgrading of several traditional stools.
These include the recognition of the Akoko of Tongeji Island, the Onitafin of Orile Itafin and the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo, alongside the creation and upgrading of additional coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Traditional Councils.
Akinmade said the recognition and upgrading of traditional institutions would strengthen their role in promoting peace, security, grassroots governance and community development.
He added that Ogun State, which borders Lagos, has in recent years intensified investments in housing, transport infrastructure and industrial development to attract domestic and foreign investment while supporting sustainable economic growth.
