Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on security agencies deployed for the governorship election to remain vigilant and ensure a peaceful voting process across the state.
Adeleke made the call shortly after casting his vote at Ward 2, Unit 9, Sagba-Abogunde, where he said he had received information about an alleged plan to disrupt voting in his community, Egbema.
He urged the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Commissioner overseeing the election and Divisional Police Officers to pay attention to the information and take appropriate measures to prevent any disruption of the electoral process.
“I’m calling on the Inspector-General of Police and all the police personnel to watch out,” Adeleke said.
The Governor also urged voters and other stakeholders at polling units to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
He further alleged that there were plans to bypass the established result-collation procedure by taking results directly to collation centres instead of following the prescribed process from polling units through wards.
Adeleke stressed the need for all stakeholders to adhere to the established electoral procedures.
He said voting at his polling unit had been peaceful and expressed hope that the situation would remain so throughout the election.
The Governor arrived at the polling unit at about 8:30 a.m. and completed the accreditation process before casting his ballot.
Voting is ongoing across Osun State, with voters turning out at polling units amid the presence of security personnel, election observers and party agents.
The allegations made by the Governor had not been independently verified at the time of filing this report.
