2027: Oyigbo Community Pledges Support for FCT Minister

By Hudu Yakubu, Port Harcourt

The people of the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have pledged their continued political support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, while appealing for further interventions to address the area’s development needs.

The pledge was made during a political stakeholders’ engagement in Oyigbo, where community representatives expressed support for Wike’s leadership and called for sustained attention to infrastructure, healthcare, education and youth empowerment.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Zonal Director of the Post Primary Schools Board, Dr Chimereze Nwaorgu, invoked a biblical declaration to express the community’s commitment.

“Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God,” Nwaorgu said.

He commended Wike for what he described as his contributions to human capital development, institutional support and administration at state and national levels.

Nwaorgu also highlighted the minister’s role in facilitating federal appointments and supporting educational institutions, saying his interventions had helped strengthen confidence and promote peaceful relations across Rivers State’s 23 local government areas.

While expressing the community’s support for Wike, he appealed for further development projects in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

The requests included sustained support for healthcare facilities and medical equipment, the upgrading of public schools, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of electricity infrastructure, and expanded programmes for youth employment, skills acquisition and economic empowerment.

Nwaorgu said sustainable development in Rivers State required political unity and recognition of previous development efforts.

He urged community members and political stakeholders to maintain their engagement with leaders while pursuing solutions to the area’s outstanding development needs.

Responding to the community’s show of support, Wike urged Nigerians to look beyond social media commentary and assess political leaders based on their records and performance in public office.

He argued that electoral success and effective governance required grassroots political organisation, courage and administrative experience rather than online popularity.

The minister also defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that temporary sacrifices were necessary to achieve long-term economic stability and infrastructure development.

He called on political stakeholders across party lines to support the President’s development agenda, saying cooperation was important to the country’s future.
