Plateau Governor Urges New Advisers to Uphold Integrity

By Omolola Bello, Jos

The Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has charged newly appointed Special Advisers and Honorary Special Advisers to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing the need for practical solutions that will improve the lives of citizens.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the appointees at Victoria Gowon Hall, New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, Mutfwang said their appointments were intended to strengthen the state’s governance structure, improve policy formulation and implementation, and bring additional expertise into public service.

The governor said his administration remained committed to building a united, secure and prosperous Plateau State, noting that governance required a competent and dedicated team working towards shared development goals.

He reminded the appointees that their appointments were not merely recognitions of personal achievements but calls to greater responsibility, sacrifice and accountability.

“Your appointments are not merely recognitions of personal achievement; they are calls to greater responsibility, sacrifice, loyalty and accountability to the people of Plateau State,” the governor said.

Mutfwang urged the advisers to provide sound policy advice, undertake research, develop practical proposals, monitor government programmes and identify emerging challenges requiring urgent attention.

He stressed that their recommendations must be timely, evidence-based and guided by the overall interest of the state.

Addressing the Honorary Special Advisers, the governor encouraged them to deploy their professional expertise, experience and networks towards identifying investment opportunities, facilitating stakeholder engagement and building partnerships capable of accelerating development across Plateau communities.

On security, Mutfwang said his administration had reinvigorated Operation Rainbow, strengthened community-based security initiatives and trained approximately 1,500 personnel across the state.

He said that technology had been introduced into the state’s security architecture to improve surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational response.

The governor also listed healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, water supply, sanitation, waste management, urban renewal, transportation and road infrastructure among the sectors receiving attention.

He said road projects were ongoing across local government areas, with some completed and others nearing completion, while acknowledging that more work was required to meet the expectations of residents.

He further called on the appointees to avoid personal interests, unnecessary rivalries and actions capable of undermining effective governance.

According to him, they must remain accessible to citizens and ensure that the concerns of rural communities, vulnerable populations, young people, women, farmers and entrepreneurs inform government policies and recommendations.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and development, Mutfwang said the government would continue working to restore hope, rebuild communities affected by destruction and create an environment where citizens could live and prosper with dignity.

He urged the appointees to translate the administration’s vision into measurable results, declaring that “the time has come and the Time Is Now” to deepen peace, strengthen institutions and accelerate development across Plateau.
