The Oyo State Police Command has stepped up security around schools across the state as students return for the new academic session.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command said it was increasing police visibility around schools and strengthening intelligence gathering in partnership with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), school authorities, parents, and local communities.
The statement says the initiative was unveiled during the 42nd anniversary celebration of the PCRC in Oyo State, highlighting the police-community partnership in addressing security challenges.
Ayanlade noted that under the Safe School strategy, officers assigned to protect schools have been directed to maintain regular contact with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students and respond quickly to credible intelligence.
Collaborative Security
He said the command would deepen engagement with the PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors, administrators, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), teachers, parents, and students to establish a collaborative security framework for early identification, reporting and prevention of threats.
The PPRO urged residents to report suspicious people, vehicles, or activities schools,schools as early information could help prevent attacks and other security incidents, saying the command had adopted the message, “See Something, say Something,” as part of the public awareness campaign.

Ayanlade stated that sustainable school safety required collective responsibility, noting that continuous engagement with stakeholders remained crucial to identifying security concerns, strengthening preventive measures and ensuring that credible information reapolicehe Police early enough for intervention.
He admonished school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools.
The PPRO assured residents of the command’s commitment to working with the PCRC and other stakeholders to create a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning across the state.
