The English Premier League returns a little over 80 days after it all came to a conclusion as newly promoted Brentford will play their first game in the English topflight football when they host Arsenal in the season opener at the Brentford Community Stadium.

While last season was largely played out in empty stadiums, the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in England means that larger attendances are expected during the upcoming campaign, although some clubs want fans to have proof of negative COVID-19 tests or full vaccination status before admission into stadiums.

Brentford were promoted alongside Watford and Norwich City to the Premier League and the clubs will be hoping to stay in the league come the end of the 2021/2022 season.

“I am expecting this season to be competitive and there are a chasing pack of clubs who want to get into those European places,” English Premier League Chief Executive Officer, Richard Masters said.

“We know the difference that can make to your finances and your overall future. The Premier League is the most competitive league in Europe. We want it to stay that way. I believe it still is.”

Between the end of May and now we’ve seen Chelsea lift the UEFA Champions League trophy and the UEFA Super Cup, a thrilling Euro 2020 tournament, the Copa America and an enjoyable Olympic Games in Japan that featured victories for Brazil and Canada in the football category.

Big names also joined the Premier League with Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho and will soon be joined by World Cup and multiple Champions League winner Raphael Varane. Chelsea also brought back in-form striker Romelu Lukaku to the Premier League.

Manchester City signed Jack Grealish in a blockbuster move and Arsenal strengthened its defence with Brighton’s Ben White.  Liverpool welcomed back talisman Virgil van Dijk and new recruit from RB Leipzig Ibrahim Konate, will now partner him in the heart of defence.
