Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Andy Burnham on his assumption of office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The President reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United Kingdom.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, President Tinubu also congratulated the Government and people of the United Kingdom for what he described as a peaceful, orderly, and seamless leadership transition, saying it demonstrated the strength of the country’s democratic institutions and constitutional tradition.
The President recalled his official visit to the United Kingdom in March 2026, during which he held productive discussions with the immediate past Prime Minister.

He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Burnham would build on the gains of that engagement whilst opening new opportunities for cooperation between both countries.
“I look forward to exploring new vistas of partnership, collaboration and cooperation with the United Kingdom under the new Prime Minister,” President Tinubu said.
The President also expressed his desire to meet with Prime Minister Burnham at the earliest opportunity, both bilaterally and at multilateral forums, particularly within the Commonwealth, to deepen bilateral relations and advance shared interests.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with the new British administration in promoting mutual prosperity and addressing common global challenges.
President Tinubu wished Prime Minister Burnham a successful tenure in office and assured him of Nigeria’s continued commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
