President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extolled the Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Bako Lalong, for his commitment to peace and reconciliation in the North Central, commending his bold efforts to restore order and stability in the region.

Celebrating Senator Lalong, the President in a congratulatory message issued by his spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, described the two-term Governor of Plateau State as an outstanding leader whose tenure as a governor will always be remembered for the bold steps he took to restore order, rebuild trust, and lay the foundation for peace when it was most uncertain.

President Tinubu remarked that “Lalong’s leadership is particularly remarkable. As governor, he chose the difficult path of peace and reconciliation in that volatile North-Central state over division and disharmony.”

President Tinubu recalled Senator Lalong’s contributions to the emergence of the present administration in 2023 as noteworthy.

He said the Former Governor demonstrated strategic depth and leadership at the highest level while serving as the Director General of the Renewed Hope Presidential Campaign and also during his brief tenure as Minister of Labour and Employment.

“Senator Lalong remains a strong voice for his people, guided by wisdom earned through years of dedicated service in the private and public sectors.”

President Tinubu prays that the years ahead bring Lalong renewed strength, good health, and greater accomplishments.

Simon Bako Lalong, a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly (2000–2006), served as Speaker for seven years, becoming the longest-serving speaker in the history of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

President Tinubu described Lalong’s tenure as a governor between 2015 and 2023 as a time of navigating a “critical time in the annals of the state”, where he prioritised peace and reconciliation.
