President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential primaries are a demonstration of internal democracy.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise across the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
The President stated this after participating alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in the APC presidential primary at Ward L2, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

President Tinubu, who voted in his ward, said “the grassroots-based process had been peaceful, well-organised and in line with democratic principles, stressing that every party member had the right to participate in the electoral process.”
“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved.
It’s to ensure that we have an internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well-organised,” the President said.

He also commended APC Governors for the conduct of the primaries in their various states, saying “the process from ward congresses to delegate accreditation and validation had met democratic expectations.”
“Today, I am very satisfied, very, very satisfied that these Governors have done well in their various states. In fact, from the ward congresses to local government congresses, to the delegate accreditation, validation, members register, and certification of the electoral process, it has been all very well.
“At least, you will score democracy at a high level,” he stated.

President Tinubu further expressed appreciation to party supporters who turned out in large numbers during the exercise, saying their support served as further motivation.
“I’m just excited. They challenge me more,” the President added.
The APC presidential primary was conducted simultaneously across the country on Saturday as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.
