President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to the CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Tunji Bello, on his 65th birthday, describing him as a dependable ally, accomplished public servant and steadfast champion of progressive ideals.
In a personally signed tribute released on Tuesday ahead of Bello’s birthday on July 1, President Tinubu recalled their more than three decades of shared commitment to Nigeria’s progressive movement.
He said that Bello distinguished himself during the struggle for democracy as a courageous journalist who stood firmly against military dictatorship before transitioning into public service with remarkable success.
The President praised Bello’s outstanding record as a newspaper editor, Lagos State commissioner, Secretary to the State Government and now Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, describing him as a shining example of competence, creativity and integrity in public service.
Innovative Leadership
President Tinubu recalled appointing Bello into the Lagos State cabinet in 2003 to tackle the state’s waste management challenges, saying his innovative leadership transformed the sector within a short period and earned him the confidence of successive administrations, which retained him in key positions to deepen governance reforms.
The President further commended Bello’s versatility in political science, law, administration and strategic communication, describing him as one of the most accomplished public administrators of his generation.
Fair Competition
The Nigerian leader, who also lauded Bello’s leadership of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, stated that within two years, he has strengthened consumer protection, promoted fair competition and advanced the objectives of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He thanked Bello for his enduring contributions to Nigeria and the progressive movement, praying that Almighty Allah grants him many more years of good health, renewed strength and continued service to the nation.
