President Tinubu Pledges Nationwide Replication of FCT Infrastructure Success

By Hudu Yakubu Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to replicating the infrastructure development being recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) across the country.

President Tinubu made the pledge on Tuesday while inaugurating the newly constructed N2 Transitway, linking the Central Business District and Wuse District, including two bridges, delivered by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja.

Represented by the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, the President said his administration remained committed to extending similar infrastructure projects to every part of Nigeria through the construction of roads, bridges, railways, and other critical facilities.

He said the initiative would promote inclusive development and ensure that no region of the country was left behind in the nation’s quest for sustainable growth, prosperity, and security.

According to Tinubu, the N2 Transitway represents another milestone in the implementation of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth and improved quality of life.

“This infrastructure is a vital component of the FCT Master Plan, designed to ease traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and improve urban mobility for millions of commuters, residents, and businesses.

“For years, travelling between Wuse and the Central Area meant navigating traffic bottlenecks, losing productive hours, and enduring frustrating gridlock. Today, that has changed.

“By reducing travel time and linking these two major districts, we are opening up new commercial corridors and creating greater economic opportunities.”

The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, for driving the transformation of Abuja in line with the city’s master plan.

“You have contributed to something greater than the construction of a roadway. You have contributed to the future of our capital city and enhanced Nigeria’s pride,” he said.

In his remarks, the FCT Minister described the N2 Transitway as a strategic transport corridor linking Wuse District with the Central Business District.

Wike attributed the pace of infrastructure delivery in the FCT to the support of President Tinubu, particularly the removal of the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which he said had improved project financing.

He disclosed that on July 17, the final day of the inauguration of completed projects, he would present a comprehensive account of the President’s achievements in the FCT over the past three years.

“There are many achievements of Mr. President that Nigerians are yet to know. We will continue to showcase these projects so that citizens will appreciate the progress being made and continue to support the administration.”

The minister also assured residents that all roads in the FCT, including those not currently captured on Google Maps, would be mapped to improve navigation across the city.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the newly completed corridor as a strategic investment in connectivity, economic growth and urban efficiency.

She said the project demonstrated the FCTA’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and well-connected capital city.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, said the project was the first major implementation of the Transitway concept contained in the Abuja Master Plan.

According to him, the contract for the project was awarded in October 2025.

Dauda explained that the Transitway is a mixed-traffic corridor designed to accommodate both vehicular and rail transportation while connecting key district centers across the city.

He said the corridor forms part of Abuja’s integrated mass transit system, featuring a light rail line along the median and dual carriageways on either side, linked to intermodal transport terminals.

According to him, the Transitway is designed as a continuous transport network extending from the transportation hubs in the Central Area through districts such as Garki and Wuse in Phase I before connecting all four phases of the Federal Capital City.

He added that, when fully developed, the northern section of the Transitway would span approximately 52 kilometres, while the southern section would extend about 64 kilometres.
