The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has denied the bribery allegation that two billion naira was paid to his office from the recovered funds.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Public Relations, Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu.
According to the statement, “Prior to the repatriation of all the recovered assets to Nigeria, the countries involved have signed a memorandum of understanding as to what the monies will be put to and the Nigerian government has been working in compliance with all the provisions of the agreements reached.“
The statement added that it was on the basis of the application of the said funds in line with the agreements that Nigeria earns a reputation among the international committee of nations which translated into further recoveries.
He said the Federal Government has a designated account at the Central Bank of Nigeria for all recovered assets.
“Abubakar Malami has neither as a person nor as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice receives any funds from the recovered assets.“
The Minister challenge any person who has any evidence of such claim to come out publicly with proofs.
It would be recalled that the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in Nigeria recently said it received about 4.2 million pounds linked to the family members of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori.
