Rivers ALGON Chairman Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

By Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State Chapter, Hon. Allwell Ihunda has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 general election in Rivers State.

Ihunda made the remarks while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the official flag-off of the Tungan Madaki–Zuba Road project by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration in Abuja.

The ALGON chairman, who is also the Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, said the “Rainbow Coalition”, championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, had strengthened political support for the President in the state.

Ihunda, who led other Rivers State local government chairmen on a solidarity visit to support Wike during the project inauguration, said the people of Rivers State were proud of the minister’s achievements in the nation’s capital.

He also commended President Tinubu for appointing Wike as FCT Minister, stating that the minister’s performance had attracted national recognition.

According to him, President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated capacity and credibility in governance, which he believes has strengthened the President’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

“In Rivers State, the 2027 election is going to be a walkover. For the first time in Nigeria’s history, we have a Rainbow Coalition where virtually all political parties are working together in support of the federal government and President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

“We are here today in solidarity with our leader, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State. We have come to identify with the work he is doing in the Federal Capital Territory.”

Ihunda said no previous FCT minister had embarked on the scale of infrastructure development currently being witnessed across Abuja.

He noted that the ongoing commissioning and inauguration of projects, organised as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, reflected the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure and other democratic dividends to residents.

“We are aware that this programme spans 31 days, and today marks the 24th day of project commissioning. This demonstrates the capacity, competence and visionary leadership of Chief Nyesom Wike. We are proud of what he is doing,” he stated.

The Rivers State council chairmen also endorsed President Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying the administration’s achievements provided a strong basis for seeking another four-year mandate.

“We are proud that a son of Rivers State is transforming the landscape of the Federal Capital Territory. This is the first time we have witnessed an FCT minister driving this level of transformation across the city.

“Projects are being commissioned and flagged off almost daily. These projects form part of activities commemorating the President’s third year in office and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to development,” he said.

Responding to questions on the political outlook in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, Ihunda said the state’s current political leadership remained aligned with the coalition supporting President Tinubu.

He also dismissed suggestions that the visit to Abuja was merely ceremonial, explaining that the delegation travelled from Port Harcourt to personally commend Wike for what they described as his outstanding performance as FCT Minister.

“If we were not satisfied with his performance, we would not have travelled all the way from Rivers State to Abuja. We came because we are proud of what he is doing and to let Nigerians know that we stand firmly behind him.

“We are indeed proud that a son of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, is overseeing these landmark projects. They reflect his capacity, competence and visionary leadership,” Ihunda said.
