Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has attributed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu’s rise to the nation’s top police position to his professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty during his previous service in the state.

Governor Fubara spoke when Disu paid a courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt, describing the police chief’s return in a higher capacity as a homecoming.

He recalled that Disu served as Rivers State Commissioner of Police during a period of intense political crisis but remained focused on his responsibilities.

“While he was here as Commissioner for Police, it was at the peak of a crisis. But I can tell you that he did his work, not minding the situation,” Governor Fubara said.

He expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to navigate the country’s security challenges, particularly with the 2027 general election approaching, and assured him of the state government’s continued cooperation in maintaining law and order.

The Governor also wished the IGP success in office, expressing hope that his service would bring further progress.

In his remarks, Disu thanked the governor and the people of Rivers State for their cooperation during his tenure as commissioner. He also commended Fubara’s support for security agencies.

The Police Chief said he was in Port Harcourt to attend the book launch of retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dame Stella Okuyiga, whom he described as a living monument at 94.
