The Rivers State Government in South-south Nigeria has commended members of the Task Force for their unwavering commitment to strengthening primary health care delivery across the State, describing their collective efforts as instrumental to the steady transformation of the sector.
Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care, Professor Ngozi Odu, made the commendation during the 2026 Second Quarter Review Meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care, held at Government House, Port Harcourt, the State capital.
She said that the Task Force had recorded remarkable progress over the past three years, attributing the achievements to teamwork, healthy competition, dedication to duty and a shared commitment to improving health care services for residents of the State.
According to the Deputy Governor, “members of the Task Force have consistently challenged themselves to surpass previous performances, a development that continued to produce positive results in the State’s primary Health Care System”.
She described the progress as encouraging and urged members not to relent in their efforts, stressing that “sustained commitment and collaboration would further enhance access to quality health care at the grassroots”.
Professor Odu called on participants at the review meeting to make their deliberations concise, practical, and solution-driven by focusing their presentations on major achievements, identified challenges, and realistic recommendations for improvement.
“Adopting a more focused approach would enable the Task Force to devote greater attention to implementing practical solutions capable of improving health care delivery across the State”.
The Deputy Governor also commended the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Chituru Adele, for providing effective leadership and ensuring seamless coordination of the Board’s administrative and field operations.
She revealed that feedback from health workers as well as observations made during visits to primary health care facilities across the State had shown significant improvements in service delivery, operational efficiency and overall performance.
She said the progress recorded under the leadership of the Executive Secretary was a reflection of the dedication and collective efforts of all members of the Task Force.
According to the Deputy Governor, “continuous collaboration, teamwork and synergy among stakeholders remain essential to achieving the Rivers State Government’s vision of a responsive, efficient and accessible primary healthcare system that meets the health needs of all residents”.
The review meeting provided an opportunity for members of the Task Force to assess second-quarter performance, evaluate ongoing interventions and chart strategies for sustaining the gains already recorded in the State’s Primary Health Care Sector.
