After their disappointing exit from the CAF Champions League, Rivers United returned to action in the EUROMATCH Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday to claim a 2-0 win over Warri Wolves at their Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium ground.
The Pride of Rivers shook off their misadventure in Africa after being bundled out on the away goal rule by Ivorian side, San Pedro over the weekend to make it a perfect start in this season’s EUROMATCHNPFL.
A goal in each half from Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai and Chinemerem Ugwueze secured the full points for Finidi George’s men.
Rivers United dominated the early exchanges with Wasiu Falolu and Dabai getting involved in attempts at goal.
In the 22nd, Dabai found his target after finishing off a team move with Ochobi Elias accounting for the assist.
Dabai’s goal forced Wolves out of their defensive approach and the game opened leading to Rivers United creating more scoring chances through Chijioke Mbaoma and Stephen Manyo before halftime.

Elias, Manyo and Emmanuel Utake came close to doubling the lead for Rivers United in the early moments of the second half.
It was however Ugwueze who found the back of the net, 75 minutes after coming off the bench to replace Falolu. The former Rangers International man needed just eight minutes to get off the mark for the campaign.
Rivers United maintained a perfect start to their EuromatchNPFL campaign by keeping a clean sheet as well and will now head to Lafia to face Nasarawa United this Sunday.
Nasarawa United, on the other hand, will go head-to-head with the champions Rangers on Thursday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Rangers return to league action after narrowly edging past Benin Republic side, Sobemap FC in the first round of the CAF Champions League.
The champions began their title defence with a 1-1 draw at home to Katsina United and are yet to win a match in all competitions this season (D3).
