Security operatives have rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in Imo State on October 1, 2026.
The victims were rescued at about 4:28 p.m. local time on Wednesday, October 7, at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations by the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the rescue followed coordinated efforts among the security agencies involved in the operation.
The rescued prospective corps members have since been taken for medical examination and necessary medical attention as part of the post-rescue process.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the suspects responsible for the abduction.

The Police said operations would continue until those responsible are brought to justice.
The Nigeria Police Force also thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property and responding promptly to threats to public safety.
The Police said further updates would be provided as necessary.
