Sokoto State has strengthened its frontline security capability with the deployment of a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and tactical equipment, reinforcing operational readiness against banditry and other violent threats in Nigeria’s North-West.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence Public Relations Officer, Captain Moses Yare, following the commissioning of the security assets by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Retired), in Sokoto.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Defence Minister described the investment as a strategic contribution to Nigeria’s internal security architecture, noting that stronger state support for frontline security operations complements ongoing federal efforts to restore peace and stability.

General Musa commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritising security investment, stressing that sustainable development depends on a secure environment where citizens can live and conduct economic activities without fear.
According to the Minister, the newly commissioned armoured fleet will improve force protection, operational mobility and rapid response capability, enabling security agencies to respond more effectively to emerging threats across the state.
He also emphasised that modern equipment alone cannot guarantee success, urging security agencies to combine advanced capabilities with professionalism, discipline, inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-driven operations.
The Minister of Defence further praised the Sokoto State Government for supporting community-based intelligence initiatives, describing public trust and timely information as critical pillars of effective security operations.
Addressing troops expected to deploy the new platforms, General Musa charged them to use the equipment responsibly, uphold the rule of law and justify the public investment through integrity, professionalism and decisive action against criminal groups.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen the Armed Forces through improved technology, enhanced welfare and stronger partnerships aimed at building a safer and more secure Nigeria.
