Speakers of the South-East State Houses of Assembly are meeting in Awka, Anambra state capital, to review and standardise legislative procedures, with a focus on improving consistency and efficiency in lawmaking across the region.
The meeting is part of the South-East Zonal Conference of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and is themed, “Legislative Review and Standardisation of Procedures Across South-East States.”
The conference provides a platform for the Speakers to compare legislative practices, exchange institutional experiences and strengthen cooperation among the region’s state legislatures.

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and South-East Zonal Vice Chairman of the Conference, Somtochukwu Udeze, received the Speakers of the Enugu and Ebonyi State Houses of Assembly, Uche Ugwu and Moses Odunwa, respectively, for the conference in Awka.
The deliberations are expected to examine legislative procedures and standards with a view to promoting greater uniformity and efficiency in the operations of the state legislatures.
The engagement also seeks to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation and facilitate the sharing of experiences on lawmaking, legislative administration, representation and oversight.
As part of activities for the conference, Udeze led the visiting Speakers on a tour of selected facilities, including Solution Fun City and Anambra Country Club, where they inspected projects and infrastructure in the state.
The visiting Speakers expressed satisfaction with the facilities inspected and commended the Anambra State Government’s investments in infrastructure and other sectors.
The conference comes against the backdrop of efforts by Nigeria’s state legislatures to strengthen institutional cooperation and improve legislative processes at the sub-national level.
The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria represents the collective interests of state legislatures and promotes collaboration among them.
