The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Abbas Tajudeen has hailed Team Nigeria for its sterling performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, saying the country’s contingent made the Country proud at the tournament.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker commended the athletes for their patriotism and commitment, saying they were “determined to keep Nigeria on the map of sporting excellence.”
While noting that trophies and medals are symbols of achievement, the Speaker said; “discipline, resilience and determination are the qualities that make victory possible.’
He said that these virtues had earned Nigeria 24 medals—10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze—at the latest edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Describing Team Nigeria as the country’s “global sports ambassadors”, Speaker Abbas also commended the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for providing the logistics and support that enabled the athletes to excel.
He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from the Team’s discipline, resilience and pursuit of excellence in their respective fields.
He also called on citizens to remain patriotic and continue to serve as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria wherever they are.
