Stakeholders have called for stronger intelligence gathering, improved security around schools and closer collaboration between communities and security agencies.
The call came following the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan Designate of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, described the rescue operation as a reminder that the fight against terrorism and violent crime requires unity, patience, intelligence and sacrifice.
He commended the courage and professionalism of security personnel and local volunteers whose coordinated efforts led to the successful rescue, stressing that “cooperation remains key to addressing security challenges.”
Sanusi also paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the operation and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries while protecting innocent Nigerians.
According to him, “security should never be politicised as the protection of lives and property is a collective responsibility that must transcend political and personal interests.”
He urged communities to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and called for stronger intelligence gathering at all levels to help prevent future attacks.
The Ibadan Chief also advocated enhanced security measures for schools, particularly those located in vulnerable areas, through improved security planning, regular risk assessments and effective emergency preparedness.
Sanusi noted that the coordination between security agencies and community-based security groups during the rescue operation demonstrated that lasting success against criminality can only be achieved through sustained collaboration.
He further appealed to governments at all levels to invest in modern security technology, better training and improved welfare for security personnel, while taking proactive steps to dismantle criminal networks before they can threaten communities.
Calling for continued vigilance, Sanusi urged Nigerians “to remain united in supporting lawful efforts to protect communities, reject criminality and work collectively to safeguard the nation’s children.”
He prayed for lasting peace and security across Oyo State and Nigeria.
