Students Abduction: Niger State closes down Secondary Schools

The Niger state government in North Central Nigeria has closed down secondary schools after the abduction of staff and students of Government Science College Kagara in Rafi local government area of the state.

The Governor of the state, Abubakar Sani Bello who stated this on Wednesday in Minna, the state capital during a briefing on last Tuesday’s abduction explained that Secondary Schools in the affected local governments; Rafi, Shiriro, and Munya Local Government Areas part of the State would remain closed until the security situation improved.

He described the situation as serious and sad stressing that while tension is high people in the should provide useful information to security agencies for necessary action.

On the demand of 500 Million Naira, ransom by bandits Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said it is not the policy of Niger state government to pay ransom to bandits because they would use those resources for the purchase of additional weapons.

He, however, explained that Niger state government is willing and ready to assist any repentant bandits to settle for other useful and viable venture.

The Governor also called on the Federal Government to deploy all resources needed to rescue Niger state and gave an assurance that Niger state government will not rest in its oars until abducted victims were released.

Last Tuesday night, 27 students of Government Science College Kagara in Rafi local government area of the state with 3 staff and 12 family members of staff of the school were abducted by bandits while a student lost his life during the attack.
