The Bishop of Anglican Diocese in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Monday Nkwegu has called on Nigerians to love one another especially as Christians marks the beginning of the lent season.
Nkwegu stated this during his ash Wednesday sermon at Abakaliki Ebonyi State capital.
He urged all Christians in Nigeria and the world at large to be the good Ambassador of Jesus Christ.
He said ash Wednesday is the beginning of 40 days of praying and fasting.
“Christians observe Ash Wednesday as the first of 40 days of Lent – when they will participate in fasting, prayer and reflection.
“This is to symbolise the 40 day period of fasting and prayer Jesus served in the desert before his execution by Pontius Pilot.
“Lent lasts just over six weeks, but is counted as 40 days as Sundays are not included, and it always spans the 46 days before Easter”. He explained.
He prayed for God’s intervention in the country’s security challenges.
According to a Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Chaplaincy, Mile four Abakaliki, Reverend Father Michael Okeke, the lent season is a moment of repentance, fasting, abstinence and praying.
He also called on Nigerians to use the opportunity to pray for the peace and unity of the Nation.
In a similar message, the Presbyter of Methodist Church, Reverend Chemeke John said sober reflection is the yardstick of this Lent season.
