More than 5,000 indigent students in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, have received scholarships and bursaries under the 2025/2026 education support programme of the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola.
The initiative is aimed at reducing school dropout rates and improving access to higher education for students from low-income families.
Presenting the awards in Abeokuta, Senator Adeola urged beneficiaries to use the financial support for tuition, accommodation and other academic expenses.
Adeola said “the programme complements ongoing efforts to improve access to education and aligns with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative aimed at expanding opportunities for tertiary education.”
According to him, the latest edition comprises 1,735 scholarship recipients and 3,778 bursary beneficiaries drawn from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

He said “university students would receive ₦200,000 each, while beneficiaries in polytechnics and colleges of education would receive ₦150,000. Bursary recipients are to receive ₦100,000 each.”
The lawmaker pledged to sustain the programme to support more students in pursuing higher education.
The Chairman of the Scholarship Board, Professor Tope Popoola, said “beneficiaries were selected through a transparent process, adding that applications containing false information were disqualified.”
He expressed confidence that the programme would continue to provide educational opportunities for more students across the state.
