Tax Reforms Support Business Growth – NRS

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) says its ongoing tax reforms are designed to support businesses, encourage investment and drive economic growth across the country.

The Executive Chairman of the NRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, stated this at the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) in Abuja, where he highlighted efforts to simplify tax administration and strengthen collaboration between government and the private sector.

The trade fair, organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), had the theme, “Resilience: Trade, Taxation and the Economy.”

Adedeji described the theme as timely, stressing the importance of stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors in advancing economic development.

He explained that the reforms were focused on making taxation simpler, fairer, more transparent and easier for businesses to comply with.

The NRS Chairman noted that technology-driven initiatives were transforming tax administration and reducing compliance burdens for taxpayers.

“The NRS wants businesses to grow, invest, create jobs and generate value. Their success contribute to Nigeria’s economic development,” Adedeji emphasised.

He also advocated simplified taxation and improved engagement with businesses to strengthen economic resilience and growth.

According to him, digital platforms such as Rev360 and electronic invoicing were making tax registration, filing and payment more efficient.

Adedeji encouraged businesses to engage with the service, assuring stakeholders that the NRS remained open to addressing concerns, providing clarity and improving processes affecting taxpayers.

The NRS, he added, would continue strengthening its systems, reducing revenue leakages and promoting a level playing field while supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Speaking at the event, the Second Deputy President of the ACCI, Dr Aliyu Hong, called for sustained dialogue between the NRS and the business community to foster a transparent and predictable operating environment.

Hong stressed the need for closer engagement between revenue agencies and private sector operators to promote investment and business growth.

He reiterated the chamber’s commitment to protecting the interests of businesses and advancing an enabling environment for trade, investment, enterprise development and job creation.

The ACCI official noted that the trade fair offered opportunities for networking, market access, partnerships and policy discussions on taxation and trade.

Hong described the participation of the NRS as significant, saying it would help businesses and members of the public better understand tax administration, compliance obligations and available services.

He maintained that productive relations between tax authorities and the business community were critical to sustainable economic growth, adding that direct engagement would enhance transparency, understanding and voluntary compliance.

Hong urged exhibitors and participants to interact with the NRS and deepen their understanding of Nigeria’s tax framework, noting that continued dialogue would contribute to a more business-friendly environment.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the ACCI, Mr Agbaidu Jideani, said constructive engagement between the NRS and businesses would improve tax compliance and create a more predictable operating climate.

Jideani explained that the chamber’s four centres provided services to entrepreneurs, businesses, policymakers and other stakeholders within the business community.

He noted that the Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology Centre supported enterprises through training, skills development and business support programmes.

The Director-General added that the National Policy Advocacy Centre promoted constructive engagement between the private sector and policymakers on issues affecting the business environment.

Jideani reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, policy advocacy, dispute resolution, trade promotion and business development.
