A Turkish Airlines aircraft was evacuated at Tribhuvan International Airport after smoke was spotted coming from its landing gear while taxiing following arrival in Kathmandu, forcing the airport to shut down for about an hour.
Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority earlier reported that a fire erupted in the right rear tyre of the Airbus A330 but was quickly extinguished before the plane was moved to the taxiway.
All 277 passengers and 11 crew members were safely evacuated through emergency exits, with no injuries reported.

According to Turkish Airlines senior vice president for communications, Yahya Ustun, preliminary findings suggest the smoke was caused by a hydraulic pipe malfunction.
Technical inspections are now underway, while the airline has arranged an additional flight to transport affected passengers.
