U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles Pass Tough Egypt Test

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria passed a tough test against Egypt in their second fixture of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, beating the hosts 1-0 on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Nigeria were coming on the back of a 1-0 loss to Senegal in its opening match, but looked sharp in the opening minutes as they created chances. However, both sides defended well to ensure the score remained 0-0 ay halftime.

In the second half, a brilliant header from Flying Eagles defender Solomon Agbalaka in the 71st minute was enough to ensure a valuable 1-0 victory against a tough Egyptian side.

The Flying Eagles have now boosted its hopes of qualifying for the knock out stages of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria are second in Group A with three (3) points, behind Senegal.

Egypt are in third with one (1)  point from two games. Mozambique are in fourth at the bottom of the table. Nigeria will face Mozambique in the final group game on Saturday.

Senegal have already booked its place in the quarter-finals, following a 3-0 beating of Mozambique on Wednesday.
