New Defence Spokesman seeks Voice of Nigeria’s continuous support

The New Acting Director Defence Information of the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau has called for continuous support from Voice of Nigeria (VON).

The Defence Spokesman who made this known during his familiarization visit to VON’s Director General, Mr Osita Okechukwu in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital explained that through its reportage, the activities of the Armed Forces would continue to reach audiences across the globe

The Armed Forces of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria are partners as all are working for the interest of the Nation as a government media organization”.

According to him, Voice of Nigeria’s role as one of the government media organizations in its services to the nation is patriotic services.

The New Acting Director said that the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor believed that VON work is for the overall interest of the nation.

General Gusau noted that one of his reasons for coming was to present himself as the new Acting Director Defence Information.

He said that; My responsibility as the spokesperson of the Armed of Nigeria is coordinating the three services of Armed Forces of Nigeria in the area of media activities,” adding that; “The relationship between Armed Forces and VON is long-standing”.

According to him, their job is essential for national development and in doing that; they cannot afford not to carry the media along.

“Some of media correspondents have been embedded in their operations as they carry out their operations in six geopolitical zones of the country”.

“Some of the successes they recorded in the operations were attributed to the media because of the way; the media report their activities which give Nigerians courage to come out to give the military credible information to continue to perform their constitutional role”.

According to him, the Armed forces of Nigeria create conducive environment for Nigerians to exercise their franchise in the 2023 general elections.

He noted that two days ago, the Chief of Defence Staff, the three Service Chiefs, IGP, DSS and INEC representatives met in Abuja and concluded plans in ensuring a peaceful and credible General election across the country after a closed-door meeting.

The Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu said that “Armed of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria are sharing the same vision of working for the National interest”.

He noted that VON would always report accurately with no addition and no subtraction with balanced reportage.

The Director General expressed his appreciation for the assurance the Nigerian military had given in ensuring that they obey the constitutional authority in the 2023 general election and other security agencies in the conduct of the election.

The Executive Director of the News Directorate, Mr Suleiman Ahaziah, said that the Armed Forces of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria have been in a long relationship as they are partners working for the national interest of Nigerians.

Meanwhile in an interview with Voice of Nigeria Correspondent, Gloria Thomas, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau also emphasized that concerning the 2023 General elections, the Armed of Nigeria would be playing a supporting role to the Nigeria police and other government agencies in charge of elections as police is the lead agency of elections.

The visit had some of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Management Staff of Voice of Nigeria.
