Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has appointed Anton Kovalskyi as acting prosecutor general, a presidential decree showed on Thursday.
Zelenskiy removed former prosecutor general Ruslan Kravchenko by decree earlier this week, with lawmakers approving the decision in a vote on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old prosecutor has worked in Ukraine’s prosecution service since 2011, holding several senior positions during his career.
Before his latest appointment, Kovalskyi headed the Khmelnytskyi Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, a position he took up in July 2025.
His appointment follows the removal of former Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, amid an investigation involving Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies.
Kovalskyi will now perform the duties of Prosecutor General while the Ukrainian authorities determine the permanent holder of the office.
Kravchenko resigned last week after a probe by anti-corruption bodies reached his office.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) had alleged that Kravchenko’s subordinate organised a ring to cover up call centres that defrauded Ukrainians and foreigners.
Kravchenko has denied any involvement and has not been charged with a crime or named as a suspect.
